"Are you quite finished, Deputy?" she asked. Her voice was terrifyingly steady. It wasn't the voice of a victim; it was the voice of a predator who had just allowed her prey to walk straight into a trap.

Miller leaned his head through the shattered driver's side window, his breath fogging the cold air. "Unbuckle your seatbelt and get out of the car. Now."

"I think you should look at your dashboard computer, Deputy Miller," Evelyn said softly, pointing a single finger toward the open road behind his cruiser. "And then, I think you should prepare yourself."

Miller blinked, confused by her total lack of submission. Before he could formulate a response, the Bentley’s advanced internal telemetry system—triggered by the catastrophic breach of all four windows and the sudden drop in cabin pressure—engaged its highest-tier emergency protocol. An automated, synthetic female voice echoed from the car's premium audio system, loud and crisp.

“Severe structural breach detected. Cabin integrity compromised. Priority One SOS beacon activated. Transmitting precise GPS coordinates and real-time audio feed to State Police Command and Federal Task Force monitors. ETA for emergency backup is three minutes.”

Miller’s blood ran cold. He stepped back from the vehicle as if the chassis had suddenly become electrified. "What did you do? Shut that off!"

"I didn't do anything," Evelyn replied, finally reaching into her inner jacket pocket. Miller tensed, his hand dropping to his sidearm, but she moved with deliberate slowness. She withdrew a sleek, matte-black leather wallet and flipped it open, holding it up to the ambient light of the cabin.

Pinned to the leather was a heavy, silver star, accompanied by a solid titanium identification card.

"Dr. Evelyn Vance," she read aloud, her eyes locking onto his terrified gaze. "Newly appointed State Medical Director, and active consultant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation's forensic task force. This vehicle is a registered federal government fleet car, heavily armored and equipped with a direct, unalterable distress link to State Command."

She let the wallet drop onto the glass-covered passenger seat.

"You didn't just smash the windows of a civilian's car, Deputy. You just committed a violent, unprovoked assault on a federal official and systematically destroyed federal property." Evelyn tilted her head, the cold wind blowing through the ruined car. "The clock just struck midnight, Miller. And your career is officially over."

The silence following Evelyn's revelation was deafening, broken only by the cold wind whistling through the jagged remnants of the Bentley's windows. Deputy Miller stared at the titanium ID card resting on the passenger seat, his mind struggling to process the catastrophic magnitude of his error. His bravado evaporated, replaced by a suffocating, paralyzing dread. He looked down at the steel baton in his hand, suddenly realizing it was no longer a tool of authority, but the murder weapon of his own livelihood.
