"I need the entire pool drained to the bare concrete," Maya instructed the bewildered contractor over the phone. "I'm doing a complete structural inspection of the basin. Yes, I know it's the hottest week of the year. I want it completely dry by tomorrow."

The industrial pumps ran for hours, sucking thousands of gallons of crystal-clear water out into the municipal drainage system. By Tuesday morning, the luxurious, shimmering oasis was gone. In its place was a massive, barren pit of grey concrete. The deep end looked like a harsh, unforgiving crater. Maya stood on the patio, wearing a crisp, light blue button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, and dark navy trousers. She sipped her morning espresso, looking at the empty basin. It was a drastic, expensive move, but the psychological trap was perfectly set. Now, she just had to wait for the mouse to arrive.

At precisely 1:15 PM, the heavy wooden side gate rattled. Maya sat quietly at her outdoor patio table, shaded by a large umbrella. Her laptop was open, and the thick, undeniable folder of evidence rested squarely in front of her.

The gate swung open. Sandra marched in, wearing a blindingly bright coral orange blouse, tight white skinny jeans, and a pair of dark sunglasses perched aggressively on the top of her blonde hair. She was carrying her usual oversized beach tote.

Sandra didn't notice Maya sitting in the shade at first. She strutted blindly toward the pool, already reaching up to adjust her sunglasses. Then, she stopped dead in her tracks. Her jaw dropped. She stared down into the massive, dry concrete crater.

"What on earth?!" Sandra shrieked, the sound echoing off the empty basin. She dropped her beach bag, her hands flying to her hips in sheer, furious disbelief. She spun around, finally noticing Maya sitting calmly at the table.

Instead of showing embarrassment or guilt for being caught trespassing, Sandra’s face contorted into a mask of pure, self-righteous rage. Her delusion was so deeply rooted that she genuinely believed she was the victim.
