The officer closed the folder and looked at Sandra, her expression hardening into absolute professional disgust. "Ma'am," the officer said to Sandra, her voice stern and unyielding. "You have just confessed to repeated, documented trespassing, destruction of property regarding that gate latch, and you filed a false police report claiming ownership of this homeowner's property."

Sandra’s face drained of all color. The coral blouse suddenly seemed far too bright for the terrifying reality crashing down upon her. She stumbled backward, looking at the empty pool, then at the police officers reaching for their handcuffs.

"No, wait, it's a misunderstanding!" Sandra stammered, her arrogant facade shattering into pieces.

Maya stood tall, her hands resting calmly on the table. She watched without a shred of sympathy as the officers placed Sandra in handcuffs and escorted the weeping, humiliated woman out of the yard. The gate clicked shut. Maya sat back down, opened her laptop, and breathed in the quiet, peaceful air of her reclaimed sanctuary. The concrete basin was empty, but her peace of mind had never been fuller.
