He reached for the solid wood gavel. He didn't just tap it; he brought it down with the full weight of his shoulder and the absolute authority of the judicial system.

CRACK!

The sound was deafening, a percussive explosion that echoed off the hard oak walls and vaulted ceiling, momentarily overriding the panicked shrieks bubbling up from the gallery. Judge Carson leaned over the heavy wooden bench, his jaw set in stone, his eyes locking onto the rogue officer like laser sights. He opened his mouth, his voice booming with a furious, commanding baritone that demanded absolute compliance.

"Officer Maddox, put that weapon down."

It was not a request. It was a verbal strike, designed to pierce through Maddox’s adrenaline-fueled psychosis.

Just outside the heavy double doors of Courtroom 302, the muffled sound of the gavel drop and the rising tide of panicked screams bled into the hallway.

A figure was already moving toward the doors with lethal purpose. It was a man in his late thirties, built with the dense, athletic muscle of a seasoned operative. He wore a sharply tailored light grey suit that moved flawlessly with his rapid strides, a pristine white shirt, and a dark maroon tie. He was a Federal Agent, and he was not just passing by; he was the elderly defense attorney’s son.

He had been monitoring the trial, knowing the explosive nature of the police corruption his father was exposing. When the chaotic frequencies of a physical altercation reached his ears, his training overrode his civilian disguise. In a fluid, practiced motion, his right hand swept back the flap of his light grey jacket, his fingers wrapping around the grip of his black semi-automatic pistol secured at his hip. His left hand simultaneously retrieved a black leather wallet from his breast pocket, flicking it open to reveal the gleaming brass of an FBI badge.

He didn't pause to assess the situation through the frosted glass. He became the kinetic force that would break the standoff. He raised his heavy boot and kicked the center juncture of the double oak doors.
