Samuel was accused of stealing confidential files.

His professional license was challenged.

Three companies blacklisted him.

His career ended.

Ethan stared at him.

“And you came back here anyway.”

Samuel nodded.

“Why?”

“To watch.”

“For what?”

“For the day the system became active again.”

Ethan frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Samuel took him to an old terminal room beneath the building.

Dozens of inactive machines lined the walls.

He pointed to one small server.

A green light blinked.

“That server shouldn't be active.”

Ethan stared.

“What does it control?”

“The legacy transfer system.”

Ethan's face changed.

“Someone reactivated it.”

“Yes.”

“When?”

Samuel checked the logs.

“Three months ago.”

Ethan's stomach tightened.

Three months ago.

Exactly when the company's financial problems began.

Samuel looked at him.

“This crisis wasn't accidental.”

Ethan whispered:

“It was engineered.”

“Yes.”

“By Marcus.”

“Most likely.”

Samuel pulled up transaction logs.

Large internal loans had been shifted between subsidiaries.

Debt ratios had been manipulated.

Critical payments had been delayed by hours or days.

Every action was small.

Together, they created the appearance of financial instability.

Marcus Vale had been manufacturing the crisis.

Then positioning his investment group as the solution.

Ethan stared at the numbers.

“He planned to force us into default.”

Samuel nodded.

“Then use the old agreement to claim the patents.”

“Which he has no legal right to.”

“Correct.”

Ethan took out his phone.

“I'll call the authorities.”

Samuel grabbed his wrist.

“Not yet.”

Ethan looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because if Marcus realizes you know, he can erase everything.”

“We have the archive.”

“The archive proves the old fraud.”

Samuel pointed at the active server.

“But you still need proof that Marcus activated the system now.”

Ethan looked at the machine.

“How do we get it?”

Samuel smiled faintly.

“We let him finish what he started.”

THE FALSE SIGNATURE

At 4:00 p.m., the board reconvened.

Marcus Vale sat calmly at the table.

Charles Rourke looked impatient.

Ethan entered.

Samuel was nowhere to be seen.

Marcus smiled.

“Have you made a decision?”

Ethan sat down.

“Yes.”

The room became quiet.

“We will accept the acquisition.”

Several directors looked shocked.

Charles exhaled with relief.

Marcus remained calm.

“Wise.”

Ethan pushed the documents forward.

“Prepare final signatures.”

Marcus nodded.

His attorney opened the contract.

The process began.

Clause after clause.

Asset after asset.

Patent after patent.

Ethan signed slowly.

What nobody knew was that the agreement had been modified.

One page contained an embedded digital marker.

The moment Marcus uploaded the signed agreement into Vale Capital's secure system, Samuel would be able to trace the authentication route.

At 4:47 p.m., Marcus signed.

His attorney transmitted the documents.

Deep beneath Harrison Global Tower, Samuel watched a screen.
