A connection appeared.

Then another.

Then another.

Samuel whispered:

“Come on.”

Finally, the route connected to the legacy transfer server.

He began recording everything.

At the same time, Marcus entered an authorization code from his laptop.

The hidden system came alive.

Hundreds of millions of dollars began moving between accounts.

Samuel captured the transaction logs.

He called Ethan.

“Now.”

Ethan stood.

“Stop the meeting.”

Marcus looked up.

“What?”

Ethan closed the contract.

“You just authenticated a server you claimed you had no access to.”

For the first time, Marcus lost his calm.

“I don't know what you're talking about.”

Ethan turned the wall screen on.

Samuel's live feed appeared.

Transaction data filled the display.

Marcus stared.

Ethan said:

“You activated our legacy financial system at 4:47.”

Marcus stood.

“This is fabricated.”

Samuel's voice came through the speakers.

“No, Marcus.”

Marcus froze.

Samuel continued.

“It's the same access key your father used twenty years ago.”

Marcus looked toward the screen.

“You.”

Samuel stepped into view.

“Hello, Marcus.”

Charles Rourke looked between them.

“What is happening?”

Ethan answered:

“What is happening is that Vale Capital created our financial crisis.”

The room erupted.

Marcus pointed at Ethan.

“This is insane.”

Ethan continued:

“They manipulated internal debt, triggered covenant breaches, then used an invalid twenty-year-old agreement to claim ownership rights.”

Marcus shouted:

“You have no proof.”

Ethan placed the original termination agreement on the table.

“We do now.”

Marcus stared at it.

His face went white.

THE NAME ON THE ACCIDENT REPORT

Security arrived.

So did federal investigators.

Marcus Vale was taken downstairs for questioning.

But before he left, he turned toward Samuel.

“You think you've won?”

Samuel said nothing.

Marcus smiled.

“You still don't know what Richard Harrison did to Peter.”

Samuel's face changed.

Ethan noticed.

“What does that mean?”

Marcus was led away.

Samuel looked at the floor.

Ethan walked closer.

“Samuel.”

“He's trying to provoke me.”

“Is he lying?”

Samuel didn't answer.

That night, Ethan returned to Archive Room Seven.

He searched every folder connected to Peter Lang.

Then he found an accident report.

A highway collision.

Driver: Peter Lang.

Fatality: one.

Cause: mechanical failure.

Ethan kept reading.

Attached was a maintenance inspection.

The brake system had been altered.

Not failed.

Altered.

At the bottom was an internal memo.

Three initials appeared:

R.H.

Ethan closed his eyes.

Richard Harrison.

His father.

The next morning, Ethan showed Samuel.

Samuel read the report in silence.

Then he sat down.

For nearly a minute, he said nothing.

Finally:

“I spent twenty-three years wondering.”

Ethan whispered:

“I'm sorry.”

Samuel looked at him.

“Did he order it?”

“I don't know.”

“But he knew.”

“Yes.”

Samuel closed the file.

“That may be worse.”

Ethan sat across from him.
