Miller threw his hands up, his chest heaving in panic. "Wait! Look, he was causing a disturbance! I got a tip about a stolen car! This is a misunderstanding!"

Judge Vance stopped at the bottom of the steps. She looked at Elijah, who was slowly standing upright, rubbing his bruised wrist. Then she looked at Miller.

"A tip?" Judge Vance said, her voice dripping with venom. "From whom? From Richard Sterling? The man currently sitting in a black Mercedes SUV parked across the street, watching you do his dirty work?"

Miller's eyes shot toward the street. He had just confirmed his guilt without saying a word.

Judge Vance nodded to the Marshals. "Arrest this disgrace to the badge. Deprivation of rights under color of law, assault on a federal witness, and obstruction of a federal investigation."

Two Marshals seized Miller, spinning him around and slamming him against his own cruiser. The irony of the moment was entirely lost on Miller, who began crying as his own cuffs were used to secure his wrists.

Sarah ran to her father, wrapping her arms carefully around his uninjured side, tears streaming down her face. "I'm so sorry, Dad. I'm so sorry."

"You have nothing to be sorry for, my sweet girl," Elijah whispered, kissing the top of her head. "We got him."

Across the plaza, parked in a loading zone, Richard Sterling sat behind the wheel of his tinted Mercedes G-Wagon. He had been sipping an iced coffee, waiting to see the old man hauled away in shame.

But as he watched the US Marshals swarm the police cruiser, and as he saw his wife, Sarah, standing next to a Federal Judge hugging Elijah, his blood turned to ice.

He realized in a horrifying instant that Elijah hadn't been acting alone. The old man hadn't just gone to the FBI. He had gone to Sarah. Elijah had sat his daughter down, showed her the forged signatures, the Cayman accounts, and the photos of the family in Boca Raton.

Sarah hadn't confronted Richard. She hadn't screamed or thrown plates. She had smiled at him over dinner, kissed him goodbye this morning, and walked straight into the federal building to help the DOJ lay the trap.

Panic seized Richard's chest. He slammed the car into drive, stomping on the accelerator to flee.

But before the Mercedes could move an inch, a plain black van slammed on its brakes directly in front of his bumper. Another unmarked SUV blocked him from the rear.

Men and women in tactical vests swarmed the vehicle. The barrel of an assault rifle tapped sharply against Richard's tinted window.

"FBI! Turn off the engine and keep your hands where I can see them!"

Richard sat frozen. His perfect, meticulously crafted life was collapsing in real-time. His secret family. His stolen millions. His law license. His freedom. All of it, destroyed by an old man he thought was too weak to fight back.
