Marcus stared at her, utterly stunned by the sheer, staggering magnitude of her ignorance. She truly believed that writing a rule on her own HOA clipboard somehow gave her the legal right to seize private property.

For a moment, the only sound was the rustling of the autumn leaves blowing across the concrete. Marcus let out a low, deep chuckle, shaking his head. He had faced hostile takeovers and ruthless corporate lawyers, but he had never encountered a neighborhood committee member attempting to commandeer thousands of dollars of highly regulated petroleum products based on a delusion.

"Ma'am," Marcus said, his deep voice carrying a calm, immovable authority. "I don't know what kind of fantasy land you are running down at Oak Creek, but an HOA charter does not supersede federal property laws, state commerce regulations, or basic common sense. You cannot simply declare a privately owned business 'community property' because you live down the street."

Brenda’s face flushed a deep, angry magenta. She was not used to being told no. "How dare you speak to me like that! You are just a pump jockey! You don't know the first thing about property laws! I demand you give me my fuel immediately, or I will have you fired!"

"No one is getting fired today," Marcus replied smoothly, crossing his muscular arms over his broad chest. "And you are certainly not getting a single drop of free gasoline from this station. Now, you have two choices. You can pull out your credit card and pay for the fuel like a normal citizen, or you can get back in your vehicle and leave my property before I have your SUV towed for blocking the pumps."

Brenda took a step back, her mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. The sheer defiance from someone she considered beneath her was breaking her brain. "You are stealing from the community!" she shrieked, her voice echoing down the street. "You are hoarding resources that belong to my HOA! This is a criminal offense!"

"Refusing to give you my gas isn't a crime," Marcus stated coldly. "It's called running a business. Now, please leave."

Instead of leaving, Brenda completely lost whatever fragile grip she had on reality. She threw her clipboard onto the hood of her white SUV with a loud clatter and frantically dug into her designer handbag. She pulled out her smartphone, her hands shaking with vindictive rage.

"You have made a massive mistake," Brenda hissed, glaring at Marcus from behind her oversized sunglasses. "You want to play hardball? Fine. We will see how tough you are when you are sitting in the back of a police cruiser."
