Adaline’s voice remained level. “Read the signature.”
Ruth stared at the page. “Dr. Patel.”
“He has not examined me in six months.”
Claire pushed back her chair. “Thomas Hale handled the medical documents. He said everything was proper.”
“Thomas is the family lawyer,” Daniel said. “He would not fake a letter.”
Adaline placed a second sheet on the table. It was a real estate listing agreement for Hawthorn House, unsigned by her but already carrying a scheduled appraisal.
Daniel looked at Claire. “You listed the house?”
“I prepared it. There is a difference.”
“There is also this.” Adaline slid forward a bank statement. “Eighty-six thousand dollars left my account three weeks ago.”
