“I understand exactly what it is worth,” Adaline said. “That is why someone wants me declared incompetent before I can stop the sale.”

“No one is forcing you out.”

Adaline pointed to the petition. “Then why does it request immediate authority to remove me from my residence?”

Silence settled over the room.

Daniel looked at his mother. “What happens now?”

Adaline picked up the envelope and held it against her chest.

“Tomorrow I speak to Dr. Patel, the bank, and the court clerk. Until I know who forged that letter and who planned this theft, none of you will touch my accounts, my medicine, or my house.”
